A successful capital campaign is a milestone for any nonprofit, but the transition from “fundraising mode” to “project execution” and “accounting” mode often reveals high-stakes complexities. For leadership, the challenge is balancing the excitement of growth with the sobering reality of multiyear financial commitments, construction volatility, and heightened donor expectations. Failure to align these elements can lead to liquidity crises, audit findings, or a loss of donor trust.

Join us Monday, August 24, for Capital Campaigns – Financial Management Workshop.
This workshop provides a deep dive into the financial lifecycle of a capital project. By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1. Direct Strategic Cash Flow: Synchronize the timing of pledge receipts with construction “draws” to maintain liquidity and avoid mid-project funding gaps.
2. Mitigate Leadership Risk: Design a governance framework (including Change Order matrices and internal controls) that protects the ED and Board from cost overruns and scope creep.
3. Ensure Donor Stewardship: Distinguish between restricted and unrestricted funding to ensure 100% compliance with donor intent, preventing “clawback” risks or reputational damage.

Presenter: Kelly Corley, CPA, has more than 25 years of nonprofit finance, accounting, and leadership experience. With leadership roles in nonprofits with annual budgets up to $28 million, she brings strong experience with budgeting, financial systems, payroll, strategic analysis, staff supervision, and governance to the table. Her professional experience includes nonprofits such as the AT&T Performing Arts Center, KIPP Austin Public Schools, the LIVESTRONG Foundation, and the Long Center for the Performing Arts. In 2023 she received the Best Nonprofit CFO award from the Austin Business Journal.
