UNDER THE DIRECT SUPERVISION OF THE DIRECTOR OF THE SENIOR COMPANION PROGRAM, THE COORDINATOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR OUTREACH, RECRUITMENT, SUPERVISION, TRAINING AND PRESENTING, RETENTION AND RECOGNITION AS IT RELATES TO THE SC PROGRAM.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • RESPONSIBLE FOR THE RECRUITMENT OF LOW-INCOME SENIOR VOLUNTERS IN MIDLAND
  • COMPILE AND MAINTAIN APPROPRIATE RESOURCE LIST OF CHURCHES, SCHOOLS, AGENCIES IN THE AREA AND PROVIDE THEM WITH INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROGRAM
  • DISTRIBUTE PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS SUCH AS FLYERS, PAMPHLETS, PSAS, ETC.
  • NETWORKS WITH COMMUNITY AGENCIES THAT COULD ASSIST THE RECRUITMENT OF NEW VOLUNTEERS

SUPERVISION RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • CONDUCT VOLUNTEER STATION AND IN-HOME PLACEMENT SITE VISITS AND LETTER OF AGREEMENT
  • MONITORS AND TRACKS VOLUNTEERS
  • COMPLETE EVALUATIONS
  • PLACE NEW VOLUNTEERS
  • CONDUCT CONFLICT RESOLUTION CONCERNING A VOLUNTEER OR VOLUNTEER STATION PERFORMANCE
  • ENFORCE ALL POLICIES AND PROCEDURES OF THE PROGRAM

TRAINING AND PRESENTATIONS RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • ARRANGE FOR APPROPRIATE MONTHLY IN-SERVICE TRAINING SESSIONS FOR SENIOR COMPANIONS
  • PLAN ORGANIZE AND CONDUCT INITIAL ORIENTATION AND TRAINING FOR ALL NEW VOLUNTEERS
  • COMPLETE SCREENING, BACKGROUND CHECKS, PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS, FINGERPRINTING FOR ALL NEW VOLUNTEERS
  • ASSIST WITH IN-SERVICE TRAINING FOR VOLUNTEER STATION STAFF AS NEEDED

PROGRAMMATIC/CLERICAL DUTIES:

  • COMPLETE ASSESSMENTS ON ALL REFERRALS FOR THE SENIOR COMPANION PROGRAM IN A TIMELY MANNER
  • COMPLETE ALL INITIAL MEETINGS SCs AND POTENTIAL CONSUMERS
  • ENSURE ALL VOLUNTEERS HAVE THE APPROPRIATE TRANSPORTATION FOR WORK DAYS, MEETINGS AND SPECIAL EVENTS
  • COMPLETES, UPDATES, FILES ALL VOLUNTEER INFORMATION IN A TIMELY MANNER
  • DEVELOPS/MAINTAINS SC DATA BASE
  • ASSIST VOLUNTEERS WITH COMPLETING CLAIM FORMS WHEN INJURED DURING VOLUNTEER HOURS

RECOGNITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • PLANS, COORDINATES AND IMPLEMENTS RECOGNITION EVENTS: ANNUAL RECOGNITION EVENT, HOLIDAYS EVENTS, AND OTHER SPECIAL EVENTS

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • ADHERES TO PERSONNEL POLICIES AND PROCEDURES FOR PROJECT STAFF CONSISTENT WITH THOSE OF SPONSOR
  • ATTENDS CONFERENCES, MEETINGS, AND TRAININGS RELATED TO THE POSITION
  • ASSISTS WITH SPECIAL EVENTS
  • PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

** THIS POSITION REQUIRES TRAVEL (USUALLY LOCALLY) USING OWN VEHICLE. AGENCY WILL REIMBURSE MILEAGE

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • HIGH SCHOOL OR COLLEGE LEVEL COURSE PREFERRED IN HUMAN SERVICES OR THE EQUIVALENT IN EXPERIENCE.
  • EXCELLENT COMMUNICATION SKILLS
  • FAMILIAR WITH MIDLAND SERVICE AREA (S), AGENCIES, SERVICES, ETC.
  • MUST HAVE A VALID TEXAS STATES DRIVER’S LICENSE AND ACCESS TO RELIABLE VEHICLE
  • PLANNING, ORGANIZING, TRAINING, AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION CAPABILITIES
  • ABILITY TO WORK EFFECTIVELY WITH COMMUNITY AGENCIES
  • ABILITY TO RELATE EFFECTIVELY WITH THE ELDERLY
  • ABILITY TO USE COMPUTER (WINDOWS, WORD, EXCEL, OUTLOOK)
  • ABILITY TO WORK AS A TEAM MEMBER
  • ABILITY TO BE FLEXIBLE
  • GOOD SENSE OF HUMOR AND COMPASSIONATE
